This cottage is an absolute gem! Simon and Lucy, of Get Active Lefkas, had lived in this cottage since 2007 and rebuilt it themselves before building a new home close by with their workshop etc. Believe me, the photos do not do justice to this cottage, with its secluded and remote surroundings.
I just couldn’t believe how well this fits in with my Dragon Drascombe sailing philosophy. Sail under canvas during the day, enjoying the slow yet steady pace of the boats, getting away from the hustle and bustle of the town and discovering small harbours to drop an anchor for a swim in crystal clear waters with small fish in abundance. Then with just a 15 minute bike ride back on virtually flat terrain to this quiet and secluded stone cottage set amongst ancient olive groves to spend a relaxing evening. What a superb contrast to your day on the water.
Down amongst the trees and olive groves is The Little Owl Cottage, offering you the peace and tranquillity you’re seeking for your Greek Sailing and Outdoor Adventure, secluded yet very close to Nidri and the sea and islands of the Meganissi channel.
The ground floor patio area is accessed from both bedrooms on the ground floor. Just open the doors in early morning to hear the bird song, and you can walk or cycle from the front door of the cottage through the olive groves before breakfast. It’s such a contrast to the apartment atmosphere on the water edge.
The first floor balcony comes off the kitchen/lounge indoor living space. From here your view is the Limestone escarpment which in the evening appears to be a shining silver colour as the sun sets behind it, and the wooded escarpment.
A small door from the living area takes one down to another south-facing seating area. For such a small cottage there are hidden gems around every corner.
The ground floor has enormously thick rock walls and shade, so it doesn’t need any aircon in the bedrooms and is several degrees cooler than the outside, allowing you to sleep in cool natural conditions.
With 2 bedrooms, one with 2 single beds and the main bedroom with a substantial double, it will cater for a family of 4 or 2 couples. However, it’s also perfect for just one couple to enjoy peace and quiet whilst on holiday.
It is very evident that the rebuild work of the cottage has been carried out in a very professional and creative manner. With my background as a cabinetmaker and joiner I really appreciate the quality of work and fittings used, the simple design mode and great colours to open up the area. And not a flat-pack cabinet in sight!
