Both Andy and Dave Hiscock have returned year after year to join my Ionian charters and are the exponents of the use of the R&J Baton Roach sail sat up, see Andy’s past review on this topic.
This past summer they chose the first week in September, a great month for a lower temperature and still warm seas. They were based at the Iris Hotel Apartments, this is our late afternoon meeting place at the pool patio bar where thoughts on the past days sail were chatted over and plans made over a beer and delicious Meza for the forthcoming coming day, it’s also close to Elaine’s supermarket.
They met up with my other Lugger groups from the Geni Garden Apartments and made a suggestion that on the following day they would make themselves available to join 2 of the crews for an instructional session sailing out of Oasis beach. Andy went with Ralph and his wife and Dave took on Dave Keevil.
What a great opportunity for these two crews to have a few hours out with 2 very experienced exponents on Drascombe Luggers. This benefited tremendously and pushed the 2 crews forward which enabled them to make great progress.
It has now transpired that Ralph and Dave Keevil plus a pal have booked to return next September and have 10 days sailing out of Kioni on Ithica. All good, the Captains Apartment booked at Kioni, flights done and it’s just now the anticipation of getting down to Ithica. For those who vish to follow Ithica more closely for Lugger sailing, I have on my past reviews an inspiring review made by Neil Wilson in 2019, it’s worth a watch, it’s such an awesome area. Also This video shows the sailing in Ithica that Ralph and Dave have opted for.
