Sailing in the Sun on 1st October 2024

October 3, 2024

Another glorious day of sailing for 2 Lugger groups on 1st October in Vlycho Bay.

It was for Robert and Elspeth their third charter with me, importantly last October they came and had 10 days of Sail Training with me, the result of that has borne fruit, they are sailing with confidence showing very good wind / sail position and most of all really enjoying themselves.

Whilst David and Jenny have had a day of tuition with me as a refresher, they have picked up the techniques of Lugger sailing very quickly and will sail alongside the other Lugger for the remainder of their charter

For their day 3 with a settled 3 to 8 knot southerly wind, they set off for Desimi Bay and no doubt a stop off for a swim at Oasis beach on the way.

For a late afternoon return is a very welcomed cold beer and Meza at Effie’s pool bat at the Athesis hotel, just metres from our landing beach.

September and early October is an idilic time to visit the South Ionian. The temperatures are around 23 to 28, much quieter and less congested in the tavernas, the water temperature is still good for swimming and good predictable winds.

It’s a MUST time of the summer to enjoy sailing and exploring the South Ionian Sea, consider it for your 2025 late summer break before the onset of the U.K. winter.
