Our fleet currently includes nine Drascombe Luggers, all of them totally restored to a very high standard and fully equipped to suit the requirements of “sailing in the sun” in the Greek Ionian.
Their names are Heulwen (Welsh for sunshine), Ellie, Jojo, Paxi, Tiki, Annie B and Clara, Angie and Katerina, and you can read more about their adventures in our Reviews section.
For pushing you around when the wind drops each Lugger has a Mariner 4-hp four stroke engine, safely locked onto the Transom, an extremely reliable engine and easy to start.
With beaches and coves to get in to and explore, there is a main bow anchor, warp and chain with a small stern kedge anchor and line to use for keeping into the wind when on a beach. There are fenders for tying up to jetties and several warps kept in the covered hatches.
To help maintain the decks and woodwork at night there is a deck cover which easily clips into position and is kept in the stern locker with a small bucket, hand bailer and clip on “swimming ladder”.
To add comfort to your day’s sailing in the sun there is a large “Fisherman’s brolly” and sun tent; the tent straps between the masts so that during your lunch breaks one can shelter out of the sun. A cool bag and ice blocks are supplied along with a picnic set, the cool bag and blocks can be popped into the freezer at night and in the morning your drinks and food for the day can be loaded up – chilled wine is so much better than warm!
There are 2 (or 3 if required) dry bags for clothes and towels etc, which can then be stowed in the covered side lockers.
Each lugger has a safety bottle containing the following:
- Dry bag for mobiles
- Pack of inshore flares
- First aid kit
- Local area chart and waterproof cover
- Hand held compass
- Bowswain’s multi-knife
- Navigation lights
- Small tool kit.

As well as the Luggers we also have Warrior Spirit, an Atlantic 21 class boat formerly used by RNLI for inshore rescue work. She underwent a full restoration in 2017 and is now enjoying her new home in the sunshine of the Ionian sea, a fitting way to spend her later years, being looked after by our dedicated team here at ‘Dragon Drascombe’. Affectionately know as the Taverna Express, she is great for getting quickly you to where you need to be!
During the restoration we managed to find out a little more about Warrior Spirit’s history, which you can read about here.
