Hello and welcome. My name is Phil. Osborne and I am the MD of Dragon Drascombe Ltd. I have re-built all the Luggers at my workshop in Wales and will be based on my yacht Dawn Dreamer in Vliho Bay throughout the summer period, where I will be attending to you and ensuring your time with me is relaxing and enjoyable. I will be your complete one-stop-shop holiday ‘rep’, starting from your initial enquiries about your Lugger holiday and throughout your stay with us, looking after day to day events and issues, from advising on the best place to swim to weather forecasting. Whether it is guiding you through the booking options, offering local knowledge and advice while you are with us, or sorting out any problems that may arise, I will always be available.
So, where did this all begin? As a junior member of the instructing staff at The Outward Bound Sea School, Aberdovey in 1969, we used a Drascombe Long Boat as a replacement to the Naval Whalers for seamanship training, and later a Lugger was introduced. Known for their sea keeping qualities, the Lugger is a safe boat, simple in its design and rig and great fun to sail.
Having moved on from teaching in the early 80’s I formed a Cabinetry making company, Dragon Design, which still functions very successfully during the winter months. Having purchased a Trident Warrior 35 based in the Ionian in the early 2000’s I began to appreciate what a superb area the Ionian would be for a Drascombe, subsequently purchasing a neglected Tiki and re-building her before giving her a new lease of life and home in Vliho Bay. The rest is history.
Dragon Drascombe now has nine Luggers, one RIB and several contracts with high quality villas and apartment venues, all in the wooded and quiet area of Geni on the eastern side of Vliho Bay.
Your Drascombe holiday will be all encompassing, satisfying the aspirations of the sailing partner as well as those of the not-so-inspired, for whom a good book to read by the pool, a local walk through the beautiful lanes of Geni, not to mention a few hours out cycling ending with a swim at Desimi Bay, will be the perfect choice for the day.
Historically, the couples and families have done the UK Spartan sailing in past years, suffering the wet and cold, and perhaps passed through the group Flotilla sailing holidays when they had a young family. But now they want something different, yet still with a sailing theme, but something more comfortable, a holiday that can be enjoyed together. For the sailing member a chance to re-live the early days of sailing small boats, the big difference being the delight of warm weather and seas with stable wind conditions. You can sail as much or as little as you wish; there is no timed programme. In fact this is not really a sailing holiday in the traditional sense, more a holiday in the sun with a superb apartment / villa, great local tavernas in the Geni area of Vliho Bay, and last but not least a Drascombe Lugger safely moored at the bottom of the garden.
